Great News! As of the end of November 2019, the very generous and devoted parishioners of both St. Augustine’s and Good Shepherd have pledged over 85% of the funds needed to build the church and parish center in Mitu, Colombia. Read on for full update.

Our Giving Tree Program begins next weekend. Please take a tag from the trees and adopt a child whose request is on the tag and make that child’s Christmas wish come true.

The Light of the World retreat has brought much joy to Catholics in the Blackstone Valley over the last several years, including 42 people from our 2 parishes. Light of the World retreat is scheduled for the weekend of October 18-21, 2019 at the Good Shepherd parish.  If you have always wanted to attend a retreat, but could never afford it; or take the time to go away for several days.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Mario H. Forget Memorial Scholarship Award: Lexi Millette, Sean Morrissey, Abby Stratton and Nathaniel Thompson. Lexi has served as an Altar Server & Catechist and will be attending UMass Lowell, Sean has been a Jr. & Sr. Lector and will be attending Assumption College, Abby has served our Vacation Bible School and will be attending Quinsigamond Community College and Nathaniel has served as an Altar Server and Cantor and will be attending Husson College. We are grateful to these young people for their commitment to serving God and our parish family. Thank you to those whose donations to this fund have made these awards possible.

The Holiday Fair Committee is looking for volunteers to explore their talents to join their committee. The next Holiday Fair meeting will be Wednesday, August 21 @ 6:30 pm in the Senior Room. Please prayerfully consider joining this committee. All are welcome.

The Northbridge Association of Churches will be collecting new backpacks and school supplies for children in need in Northbridge. The items needed include backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, 3-ring binders and filler paper, notebooks, calculators, rulers, scissors and glue sticks. Please leave your donations on the stairs leading into the sanctuary by August 11. Thank you.

As we begin our partnership with the diocese of Mitu and Bishop Medardo, we are looking for members of both parishes to help oversee and discuss ways we can support them, including the possibility of mission trips. If you are interested in being a part of the committee, please call the Good Shepherd rectory and leave your contact information. The Mario Henry Forget Memorial Scholarship is given to those graduates of our parish who have remained in active ministry here at Good Shepherd through their senior year of high school. Mario was an altar server and an active youth leader in our Vacation Bible School. Mario died in 2003 as the result of a tragic accident. This scholarship was established in 2013 to honor his memory and to assist in some small way those graduates who have been faithful to serving our parish community.

Congratulations to the 42 people that have been at our two retreats! Everyone has come away with a deepened faith and a new relationship with Jesus Christ. The retreat Team was very happy to witness the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon these. The beauty of Light of the World is that it doesn’t just end; but continues after the weekend. Our third retreat is scheduled for October 18-23, 2019. We hope you will be touched by the Holy Spirit to consider this for yourself, so that you too may come away refreshed and joyous. Information regarding our third retreat will appear in the late summer bulletins. and on posters to be displayed at St. Augustine and Good Shepherd. Thanks and God Bless.

The basket making group for the Holiday Fair will be meeting in the church hall on the following dates: April 29 (Monday) and June 7 (Friday) from 9 am-noon, May 6 (Monday) and May 28 (Tuesday) from 6 pm to 9 pm. Please join us! You only have to bring yourself...or a friend if you’d like. We have all the supplies needed. No talent required. We take the items we have and put together a basket, while enjoying each others’ company!
